Project Description

Winter fun for the whole family

When a fine blanket of snow lies over the Hohe Tauern and the Dolomites in winter, East Tyrol becomes a true ski paradise. Away from mass tourism, you will experience absolute snow security, hardly any waiting times and perfectly groomed and marked slopes of all levels of difficulty.

Directly from Lienz you can take the cable cars to the ski areas “Zettersfeld” and “Hochstein”. The family- and child-friendly ski area at Zettersfeld offers 30 km mainly easy and medium pistes, while on the Hochstein with its steep and challenging slopes, even experienced skiers get their money’s worth.

Pure variety is offered by the “Ski Hit Osttirol“. With just one ski pass, you can experience unrestricted winter fun in all eight ski areas in East Tyrol, including the Mölltal Glacier, which guarantees snow security until late spring. A total of 361 kilometres of pistes are waiting to be discovered. Slope plan for the Lienz ski resorts – Hochstein & Zettersfeld

Ski Schools – Snow & Fun

Skiing all day long – that’s just too long for many children. That’s why the ski schools offer not only childcare at noon but also an extensive fun program. The staff specialises in dealing with children and know how to motivate the children. In the themed worlds of the ski schools there is a funny alternative program – tobogganing, snow tubing and snowball fights are the order of the day.

Other winter activities

Fun for the whole family is the toboggan run at the Hochstein. The chairlift takes you up and then takes you downhill by sledge through the snowy winter forest. 2,500 m in length and 275 metres in altitude must be mastered. Twice a week, the toboggan run is also in operation in the evening. So where to go with the toboggan? One possibility would be Kals am Großglockner (Moaralm), the Hochpustertal (Leckfeldalm), the Defereggental (Alpe Stalle) or the Virgental (Würfele Hütte). Cross-generational fun for every woman and everyone is included.

Curling and ice skating

Lienz attracts visitors with two ice rinks: a natural ice rink and an artificial ice rink invite you to ice skating. As soon as the ice is thick enough, young and old can glide over lake Tristacher. The artificial ice rink is located directly in the city, ice skates can be rented on site.

Go on a search for traces in the snow – snowshoeing is a very special nature experience! Hike the unspoilt nature on snowshoes and experience winter with all your senses. Snowshoes can be rented in Lienz.

Sleigh rides

A very special experience are sleigh rides in the romantic winter landscape of East Tyrol. Deep into skins and blankets you can simply switch off and enjoy the peace and drive through snowy meadows and forests.
Because such a carriage ride is something that could well be described as romantic.

If you want, you can also try your hand at the horse and actually look for happiness on his back and undoubtedly find it. There is the possibility of guided rides. And besides, you can also exchange the horse for a pony. Pony Meggie would certainly be happy about a little ride. There is also a lot in it when it comes to horseback riding in East Tyrol: professional accompaniment and lessons, relationship training, riding lessons, riding participations and and and.

Osttirodler in winter operation

With the Alpine Coaster, the safely guided two-seater comfort sleds, which can also be used by one person without any problems, drive silently down the mountain on stainless steel pipes. The special experience for the passenger here is also to determine the speed itself. The Osttirodler simply leans on the ground without foundations, solid support give earth nails.
The athlete experiences an exciting and varied ride at partly “airy heights”, as the track can be laid between 1 m and 6 m above the ground. The thrill is considerably increased by means of built-in jumps and wave distances. And when it rains or snows – no problem – the brakes always work sensationally well.
